The 22-17 win marks the Baa Baas' second in the last two seasons with their only victory last year in round six against Glen Innes.
New Baa Baas coach Frazer Yule said there was a bit of ill-discipline but "but we did enough to get over the line."
"I think we just played to our strengths, played hard, made our tackles and just got on with the game," he said.
"We have a fairly good forward pack that set the platform.
"There's a few older guys who have come back from previous years.

"Cody Graham looked good in the front row and we have got a bit of pace out there in the backs as well which is handy."
Yule admitted there's plenty to improve on after some disappointing decisions.
"Defence was pretty good," he said.
"We probably blew a fair few chances.
"For some reason we kicked a couple of grubbers dead.
"We didn't didn't hold the ball when we were in their 22 so I think we bombed a fair few chances as well."
They'll have to be better this Saturday when they come up against the Armidale Blues in the Charity Shield clash.
The Blues were beaten 13-12 by St Albert's College.
"I know our boys are really exciting to try and wrestle back that Charity Shield," Yule said.
"I think it has been five or six years that we haven't won so that will be our aim this weekend."
Yule knows the Blues have been travelling well at the top of the table but he isn't concerned about who he's coming up against.
"I think they are travelling a little bit better than what we are but we definitely have a lot more improvement in us as well," he said.
"I don't think we are worried about anyone else, we are worried about how we want to play and keep building on ourselves.
"We don't really care who are coming up against really."
