O’Connor Catholic College principal Regina Menz dished out some high praise for this year’s Dux of the school, Cameron Roan, saying he was an outstanding student for the school right from Year 7.

“He has excelled in his learning, and I was lucky enough to teach him in Years 11 and 12, where he excelled again,” Mrs Menz said.
“So, we’re really pleased to announce Cameron as our Dux for 2018, with an ATAR of 95.25 and Cameron has already been accepted into a civilian scholarship for next year with ADF.”

Cameron said it was a Defence Civilian Undergraduate Scholarship, but it was definitely more than one person that got the results.
“I’m doing Aeronautical Engineering and I don’t have to join the services afterwards,” he said.
“Obviously I needed to do lots of study and hard work. I just have to say, all the teachers and staff at O’Connor is what gets you there. the support that they provide and go out of their way to help you is you have any questions or concerns.
“I just tried as best I could and I put in as much effort as generally put in for school, and that’s the result I got. I don’t know how much harder it is for anyone else, but that’s just how it went for me.”

Catholic Schools NSW director of schools Chris Smyth said students from the Diocese of Armidale achieved a total of 28 Band 6 results in a wide range of subjects.
“It is a great tribute to school principals and teachers that the HSC results in secondary schools in the Diocese of Armidale continue to improve,” he said.
