Dennis and Margaret Carson travelled to Morwell early November to compete in the national championships, both members competing in the veteran division.
Practice day of the event saw strong winds with gale force gusts making for very challenging and tiring conditions.
Day one was a target round of 144 arrows in weather conditions that were the complete opposite to practice day and idyllic for archery.
Both Margaret and Dennis were disappointed with their scores however Dennis still finished with the gold medal and Margaret completed the round in third place.
Day two was the field event which only Dennis shot in and once again came home with gold.
Day three was a target round of 90 arrows.
Conditions on this day were very changeable with rain and wind in the morning and then clearing and then expected thunderstorms which arrived at lunchtime delaying the afternoon shoot.
Dennis once again took gold completing the championships with three gold individual medals. Margaret was disappointed once again in her shooting and finished in fourth position.
Dennis was also a member of the NSW compound team which won gold.
The Pan Pacific Masters Games were held in mid November and Dan Alter and Teena Hooper travelled to the Gold Coast to contest the target event which consisted of a double fita 60/900 round.
Both Dan and Teena performed well with Dan taking the bronze medal in the veteran compound men’s division and Teena won the gold medal in the masters compound ladies division.
Members will now focus on preparations for the National Youth Archery Championships which Armidale are hosting in April.
Ella-rose Carson, Mackenzie Harper and Brodie, Jamie and Josie Hatch will all be competing in these championships giving them a great opportunity to experience this event at home.
Club shooting continues on Sundays and twilight shooting will be held on Wednesday evening during daylight saving.
