Servies will aim to keep the ball rolling from where they left off three weeks ago when they toppled competition heavyweights Easts.
Despite Guyra falling short in their opening games this season, Servies captain John Elliot is expecting a tough game when his side head north on Saturday.
“I see it as not being as clear cut as what the other games for them have been,” he said.
“We are going up there expecting a pretty tight game.”
Elliot expects his team’s bowling and fielding to factor into the result.
“If we bowl well and back it up in the field, we will put ourselves in the right direction to win. In saying that if a couple of their batsmen get away on us, then they can easily pick up the four points,” he said.
“Young BJ Cameron holds his own, he is a pretty handy bowler. Their skipper Charlie Keen is a pretty handy cricketer both with the bat and ball. Shane Wolfenden is a pretty handy bat and then Jacko [Ben Jackson] at the top of the order.
“If he fires early then we could be chasing quite a few runs as well.”
Servies’ win over Easts came after Elliot called for patience with the bat and more fight from his side.
He said the victory gave them confidence to build on and aim for a title tilt.
“That win helped us confidence-wise, we know what we can do now, but in saying that we still have to knuckle down at training and we still have to be on the ball regardless of who we play on the day,” he said.
“We know the brand of cricket we have to play to match it with the top teams, just providing we do it to every team.
“I think it also helps blooding a few juniors into first grade as well, having the senior players there that have played together for a long time, it makes it easier on the juniors coming through.”
Guyra’s rise to the top tier this season hasn’t been an easy one. The club called on a combination of young and experienced players to form the first grade team and they are just finding their feet.
Guyra captain Charlie Keen said the game against Ex-Services will be challenge for his young team.
“We’re looking forward to this week’s game,” he said.
“Ex-Services are the same as any other team in that they’ve been playing together for a few years now, while we’re still developing and and finding out each other’s strengths.
“But like I’ve said before, we need to get the basics right – bowl tight line and length and show some serious patience with the bat.”
