Losing the position of mayor to Simon Murray, Cr Tiley said he is prepared to take a back seat.
“I’m determined to do the three year term, I’ve got an offer on a unit – I’ll be taking up that offer at the end of October and I’ll be there for the three years – maybe longer.
“I’m not giving up.”
With an appointment at the University of New England as an adjunct research fellow until June 2022, Cr Tiley said he will be here well into the life of the next Council.
“I love Armidale, I’ve been going there for 20 years so I’m not quitting, I’m hanging in,” he said.
“When people elect you to Council they expect you to serve your term, and that’s what I intend to do.”
Armidale Regional Council mayor Simon Murray said he did have concerns Cr Tiley wouldn’t remain after he lost the position of mayor.
“Purely because he’s the person that’s had huge purse strings and been the one person making decisions – now he has to be one of 11 debating decisions,” Cr Murray said.
“I hope he does stay personally, because I think with his 54 years in local government he’d be invaluable.”
