Owner John Price said a spike in piracy had spurred the decision to finish trade on the city’s Civic Video which has been in operation for more than 20 years.
“It has finally got to the point that it is no longer viable to remain as a rental business so it’s time to close the doors,” Mr Price said.
“The Armidale community has always been very supportive of us, we have had a great time being here and it’s a shame it has to end.
“We have a great team here and we have opportunities for our employees in Sydney if they choose to come down.”
Civic Video will be running a massive closing down sale with more than 20,000 movies - including television series - available for purchase.
“We want to run the sale for a period of four to six weeks with all stock marked down,” Mr Price said.
“Everything must go so everyone should stop in and check it out.”
