Deb began work at the old War Memorial Hospital in 1989, starting out working in the support services.
After a number of years she was convinced to retrain as a nurse by the then Director of Nursing Helen Bearup and Community Health Nurse Sue Adams.
“We knew she had the potential and encouraged her to apply,” Helen said. “At that time it wasn’t easy to get into nursing - we were hoping that she would come back to us and work locally if she was accepted.”
After her application was accepted Deb completed her training at Gunnedah and began working as an Enrolled Nurse at Guyra and also obtained her EEN qualification.
Speaking at the morning tea Sue Adams said that Deb was always willing to take on new roles.
“She has had many in her 25 years,” Sue said. “She has taken on roles from cleaning to nursing and moved on to administration to become the ‘right hand woman’ to the Health Service Manager.”
“Deb is efficient, cheerful, knowledgeable, helpful, energetic, talented, honest, hardworking, welcoming and always ready to give anyone a hand.”
Former Health Service manager Felicity Wardle also sent her congratulations.
“You are an incredible clinician, a true patient advocate, a great team player with a work ethic bigger than Phar Laps heart,” Felicity said.
“Your motivation to get the job done properly, the first time, your dependability and your corporate knowledge is extraordinary.”
