A contingent of 42 boys and girls from 11 to 18 years represented TAS at the North Coast Independent Schools' cross country championships at Lennox Head with TAS coming away with six first placings, 12 podium finishes and TAS winning the Secondary Trophy for the very first time.

The seniors took to the track first for the 6000m event, with Toby Hall crossing line first in the 18 year boys event, two places ahead of teammate Louis Cannington.

Mac Orr won the 17 year boys event while also hitting their stride for podium finishes over 6000m in the 16 year boys were Charles Hunter in first place and Maxwell Guppy, third.

In the 4000m distances, Karen Baker won the 17 year girls, Olivia Cannington (2nd) and Lauren Earle (3rd) both had top three finishes in the 16 year girls and Mia Croker came third in the 14 year girls.

There were also strong results over 3000m with Emily Ussher having an outstanding run to win the 13 year girls, Ashlee Morgan cam third in the 12 years and Zana Ross blitzed the 11 years girls event.

"It was easily the best results for TAS ever at these championships and to win the Secondary Trophy for the first time was wonderful," TAS Athletics coordinator Jim Pennington said.

"It was perhaps even more remarkable given for many in the squad it meant putting on their running shoes less than 24 hours after cycling 100km in a school charity event."

With the top 10 runners in each division making it through to the Combined Independent Schools titles, there will be a TAS team of 29 taking to the track at Eastern Creek on 10 June.
