Armidale Regional Council Mayor Simon Murray and council CEO Susan Law moved to allay concerns held by the Friends Of the Armidale Library surrounding changes to library services in both Armidale and Guyra.

Cr Murray said the library in Guyra was a community space being used by children to elderly adults.
"It's being used for different purposes. Some use it as a traditional library, for getting additional information and others are using it for purely a communal area," he said.
Cr Murray said he could not comment on concerns held about staffing changes which may occur after the three year merger proclamation date on May 12.
"Any redundancies would be a matter for the CEO to determine," he said.

Mrs Law said while council was still working through some of the merger issues, significant progress had been made, and there would be no redundancies.
"I have made my position on that clear. I have spoken to outdoor staff in the depots, as well as at both Armidale Region and out at Guyra, that we're not looking at making anyone forcibly redundant as a result of the proclamation date," she said.
"I think it is probably fair to say that there is still a fair bit of work to do in terms of harmonising our processes and systems to gain the efficiencies that were envisaged at the time of the merger," she said.
"It's important that we look at what a 21st century library needs to be. In the Armidale region, we're a highly technologically connected community. So, it's looking at how the library might be able to enhance and support those who may want to gain their information digitally."
Mrs Law said technologies such as 3D printing and virtual reality were being considered to stay in tune with how people live their lives now.
"We are looking at enhanced services at both Armidale and Guyra libraries. We're hoping to be able to provide additional services out of our libraries, so people can do business with council," she said.
"Librarians can provide research facilities for individuals and businesses. You may be able to pay things like your rates or your registration fees, your parking fines, all those sorts of services.
"Also having requests answered out of the library, things like knowing what's happening to your development application or finding out what you might need to register your dog."
