Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Agriculture and Water Resources, Barnaby Joyce, said the fund would support farming, forestry and fisheries organisations to boost their leadership skills long into the future.
He said the government recognised that strong industry leadership was “critical to agriculture remaining one of the pillars of our national economy”.
Among the groups is the Cattle Council of Australia, which will receive $500,000 help it establish Cattle Australia, a new representative body to provide leadership across the grassfed cattle industry.
“This industry-led reform is welcome news and a much-anticipated development for the cattle industry,” Mr Joyce said.
“This funding gives effect to the recommendations of the Senate Committee inquiry into the red meat sector, which saw a role for government to assist Cattle Council of Australia transition to a new producer representative body.”
Other recipients and their projects include:
- Sheepmeat Council of Australia: Future Flock Network, a group of engaged sheepmeat industry leaders to represent and support the industry to ensure productivity and profitability.
- WoolProducers Australia: Raising the Baa, a leadership program to attract, educate and retain industry leaders across areas of governance, finance, biosecurity, welfare and market access.
Mr Joyce said there would be more announcements to come.
