Monckton Aquatic Centre worker Jackie Hawkins said pool numbers have spiked this summer – partly due to the closure of both the Armidale Hospital’s hydrotherapy pool and the SportUNE pool.
“We’ve been really busy,” she said.
“It’s very hot as well but we provide sunscreen.”
Pool-goers Dominic and two-year-old Mena Worthington have been frequenting the local pool since summer hit.
“We come as often as we can but there’s a lot of swimming carnivals at the moment so sometimes it’s hard to find a space,” Mr Worthington said.
And the pair might have to fight for a spot in the water this weekend as the Bureau of Meteorology is predicting Friday to reach a top of 33 degrees.
Saturday and Sunday are expected to reach 37 degrees with storms predicted for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday – providing some relief from the heat.
