This outstanding service will come in the form of a heap of new strategies.
Strategies to entice new residents and workers.
Strategies to bring in more tourists.
On top of strategies, there will be partnerships.
Partnerships with the livestock industry.
Partnerships with the University of New England and other education centres.
And there will be plans.
An arts and cultural plan, an asset management plan for public spaces and facilities, a pedestrian and mobility plan.
But first, council wants to know what you think of its new ten year vision.
Council drew it up after consulting residents – but only 618 people from a possible 29,869 residents took up the opportunity to talk to council last year when it first started this process. Key findings were taken into consideration.
Now the draft is ready for public exhibition and council hopes more people will give their feedback on the proposed future directions being planned on your behalf.
Once the ten year vision is agreed, the council will then work on four-year delivery programs and those will be further cut down into one-year operational plans.
So this is your opportunity to look at the vision and let council know if they have the vision splendid – or whether it needs a few tweaks, in your opinion.
The plan is on public exhibition now until Friday, February 24: Go to: yoursay.armidale.nsw.gov.au/.
Any responses will be considered by council. Ideas include the following:
- A strategy to entice new residents and workers as well as tourists.
- Partnerships with livestock industry to ensure ongoing growth of the livestock trade.
- A strategy for upkeep of the local saleyards.
- A network for farmers focused on social opportunities.
- Provide the CBD with infrastructure that supports a vibrant and varied shopping experience for tourists.
- Develop a marketing program to encourage visitors to stop and visit the region.
- Investigate opportunities for providing a venue which can hold more than 500 people as a means of attracting larger events which will in turn encourage tourism.
- Provide resources and events to support small and home based businesses across the region.
- Support the UNE incubator program for stat-up businesses.
- Develop a strategy to encourage businesses to locate their operations in the region.
- Investigate opportunities for increased bus services from remote areas to Armidale town centre.
