Maciver dominated the 2015 event in the 70 to 74 year age group in Tweed Heads last weekend, returning with two gold and a silver from three events.
That was easily enough for Maciver to be crowned overall champion in his age group.
“It was a great result,” he said.
“I thoroughly enjoyed the weekend.
“I’ve won at National Masters level before, but it’s always hard, so it’s very satisfying.”
The championships began with a 20km time trial, which saw Maciver blitz the field for an 18.3 second win in a time of 31.16.63, averaging 38.4kmph.
Maciver returned the next day to win his second gold in the 54km road race.
After sticking with the peloton, Maciver broke away with five other riders late in the race and held on to score a two-second victory.
“I prefer hard, hilly courses, so that course suited me well,” Maciver said.
“I broke away on the last hill with a group of five.
“Then I managed to slip away again.”
Maciver finished second in the criterium, which he said was a pleasing result.
“Criteriums are hard for me to win because it’s very much an event for sprinters, which isn’t my strong point,” he said.
Cycling became a passion late in life for Maciver. In his younger days he was an avid runner, but switched to cycling in 1986 upon moving to Armidale and joining the Armidale Cycling Club.
“Cycling is very good for older people,” he said.
“It’s not as hard on your legs and joints.
“It has a very good social aspect as well.”
