Between 12.15am and 12.30am on Monday, thieves tripped the alarm at the TAFE facility and made off with the bright green-and-yellow vehicle.
Inspector Chris McKinnon said police are on the trail of the vehicle, despite a lack of tire tracks left on the ground by the buggy.
He said the buggy is clearly branded with the distinct green and yellow John Deere colours, and hopes it may catch the eye of vigilant residents.
Anyone who sees the buggy around town is urged to contact the Armidale Police Station on 6771 0699 immediately.
The buggies aren't known for going fast, so police do not anticipate a high-speed chase will follow should they come across the offender on the road.
