Mr Dawson was welcomed to the role of BackTrack’s AgLads co-ordinator by Greater Building Society Armidale branch manager Wendy Ng on Thursday.
The Greater is funding Mr Dawson’s salary this year as part of a $110,000 donation.
Mr Dawson said winter is a good time for the AgLads crew to learn wood cutting skills.
The young men will sell some of the wood they cut to raise additional income for their program and donate some to those in need.
“The boys are learning a practical skill, business opportunities and also about lending a hand to other people,” Mr Dawson said.
Wood cutting is typical of the training Mr Dawson will coordinate for young people, who will acquire accredited skills in fencing, stock handling, heavy machinery and other agricultural elements.
