The Wandering Warriors are a troupe of former SAS operatives, accompanied by some active SAS troopers, who are walking from Brisbane to the Australian War Memorial in Canberra to raise awareness and funds for colleagues injured physically and/or mentally from their time in the SAS.
The group of eight former soldiers and two wives are completing the walk as a relay. Some will walk the entire distance, meaning days of more than 10 hours on the road.
The Wandering Warriors raised more than $120,000 during a similar walk last year when they travelled from Brisbane to Birdsville.
Mayor Hans Hietbrink met up with the soldiers and added his signature to a scroll, along with Mayors from all towns that the walkers pass through, which will be presented to the Australian War Memorial.
