An Armidale man has died shortly after riding his motorbike with a group of friends earlier today.

At 11.45 am police responded to a single-vehicle accident involving a 78-year-old male.
The man was taken from the scene by ambulance but unfortunately died en route shortly after leaving the scene Inspector Hemsworth from the New England Police Department said.
"The matter is being investigated by New England Police who are preparing a report for the coroner and exploring a number of possibilities for the cause of death including a possible medical episode," he said.
"There was no collision."
The man was riding with a group of fellow motorcycle enthusiasts who contacted 000 after his bike left Platform Road near Kellys Plains railway crossing.

Just before midday today the Westpac Rescue Helicopter was called to assist with a motorcycle accident at Kellys Plains approximately 12 kilometres south of Armidale.
The New England Police team is still at the scene on Platform Road near the Heathersleigh Road turn off where the accident involving an elderly man occurred .
A spokesperson for both the paramedics and police said no other information is available at this time.
