ADFAS Armidale and the Rotary Club of Armidale Central have contributed to the ongoing promotion of talented young artists in the New England area with young arts grants and scholarships.

Each year they provide $1500 towards the Tertiary Music Scholarship. This year two of the applicants were so deserving that two scholarships were awarded of $1000 each.
Elinor Warwick was Music Captain at PLC in 2019, very successfully academically and excellent in music.

She was heavily involved in music ensembles at PLC including Senior Strings, Senior Choir, Senior School Orchestra, numerous chamber music ensembles and in the orchestra for the school musical production of Matilda.
Elinor has an extensive involvement in music in Armidale including the Armidale Youth Orchestra of which she was Concert Master, Armidale Symphony Orchestra, New England Chamber Choir and New England Singers.
She has been selected as a performer regionally as well as nationally including the Regional Youth Orchestra, Australian National Music Camp, and the Gondwana Voices.
She gives freely of her time participating in many local ensembles including much charity work.
Elinor is currently studying for a B.Mus (Classical Performance) at the University of Adelaide where her teacher is Elizabeth Layton
The other scholarship winner was Disa Smart, Deputy Senior Prefect at The Armidale School.
Disa had an outstanding academic record and received multiple awards for scholastic excellence, leadership and in music.
Disa won 6 first places at the Armidale Eisteddfod in 2019, including open competitions.
She has been recognised national as an outstanding cellist including being selected to lead the cello section in the Regional Youth Orchestra, Principal cellist for the Australian Honours
Program at Griffith University and third cellist in the Bishop Orchestra at the Australian Music Camp.
Disa has been selected as a vocalist in national choirs including the Gondwana Voices. She has participated fully as a musician in the life of TAS and has given freely of her time as a member of many Armidale music ensembles.
Disa is now studying for a B.Mus (Performance) at Melbourne University and working with Rohan de Korte from the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.
Four young arts grants were presented.
New England Conservatorium of Music [NECOM] conducts a project called "New England Sings!". Schools from our region train in their individual school choirs with the support of NECOM.
They then come together for a weekend in October in Armidale as a mass choir accompanied by musicians and dancers. It is a truly inclusive event with two public performances on the Sunday at the University of New England.
They have been supported with a grant of $2600.
The Walcha Central School desires to improve the musical abilities of students and sought a grant to purchase instruments to form a band. They received a grant of $2400.
Local girl Kanaya Moran, through Backtrack, applied for a grant to help with the creation of a mural called "Coming Home" in the Armidale CBD. She received $1200 towards this project that will benefit the recipient and the local community.
Musica Viva applied for a grant to fund teachers at schools to produce accompanying educational resources for students and teachers for the visits by Musica Viva artists to schools. $300 was donated to this worthwhile purpose.
