The Guyra Super Spuds have begun preparations for their second division title defence, announcing a new coach for the coming season.
Former first grade player Luke Hutton will take up the reins as the men’s mentor for 2019.
He takes over from player-coaches Anthony Dittman and Dan Vidler who shared the duties last year as the club returned to Group 19 to win the second division premiership.
Hutton climbed his way up the Guyra ranks as a junior before making his first grade debut.
Hutton claimed four premierships – 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2006 – with the club and also turned out in representative colours for Group 19, Northern Division, Northern Thunderbolts and NSW Country Firsts.
The league tag team’s coach is yet to be appointed.
The Super Spuds are set to have a sign on day next Sunday at 12pm at the Sports Complex.
On-field preparations will commence on Thursday, February 7 at 6pm.
The club have also indicated interest in playing a pre-season trial match with an opponent and a date yet to be confirmed.
They are scheduled to play the Tingha Tigers in the first round.
Tingha and Bundarra will join the successful second division competition in addition to the seven clubs who played last year – Guyra, Walcha, Uralla, Tenterfield, Warialda, Ashford and Bingara.
Bundarra sat out last season while Tingha played in the first division competition and finished with the wooden spoon in A grade.
