Essential Energy crews have commenced works to ensure a safe, secure and reliable power supply for households and businesses.
Manager community relations Northern, David Crough, said the project would strengthen the local electricity network and help to ensure a safe and reliable power supply for customers in Guyra and surrounding rural areas including Bald Blair, Ben Lomond, Black Mountain and Longford.
“During our proactive inspection programs, we have identified potential weaknesses on the electricity network which require addressing and as a result, crews will replace 100 power poles, plus other network equipment, as part of the maintenance activities,” he said.
To allow crews to work safely on the network, a number of planned power outages will be necessary, including an outage for the majority of Guyra and surrounding rural areas including Bald Blair, Ben Lomond, Black Mountain and Longford on Sunday, 10 September 2017, between 8.30am and 3.30pm.
Affected households and businesses will receive advanced notification with the specific dates and times of any planned power outages affecting them.
The planned power outages are dependent on suitable weather conditions and may be postponed if conditions are unfavourable or unforeseen circumstances arise.
“There is a large amount of maintenance work so we have undertaken significant planning and will be bringing in extra crews and equipment to limit the number of planned power outages affecting customers,” he said.
Essential Energy’s Guyra crews will be assisted by crews and equipment from Armidale, Glen Innes, Inverell, Warialda and Walcha.
“We thank customers for their understanding and patience while we work to improve the power network for their local community,” David said.
The current maintenance work is expected to be completed by November.
