SPRING is the perfect season for two things, weddings and an increase in reports of magpie swoopings.
The two came to a head when Armidale newlyweds Sara and Phillip Maria were swooped by a magpie in the midst of a photo shoot on their big day.
“From the moment we got there the magpie kept us in his sights and we were continually getting swooped for two hours whilst we got our photos done,” Mrs Maria said.
“By the end our best man and maid of honor got given the job of magpie spotting.”

The couple were married on October 8 and met in Naracoorte at a bakery where Mr Maria was the baker and Mrs Maria worked in the retail shop.
The two moved to Armidale so Mrs Maria could study at the University of New England.
The photos were taken at Gostwyk by photographer Karen Parr who said she has never experienced such relentless attacks on a wedding shoot.
“We started getting swooped straight away, the magpie was pretty relentless," she said.
“We had people on look out and luckily nobody was hurt.”
