University of New England post-doctoral fellow Kate Wright is one of 12 members of the garden’s “seeding committee” and said she was excited to see the end result presented to the public.
“There’s been lots of groups getting involved which have been of huge help,” Dr Wright said
On Tuesday Minimbah School students planted five flowerbeds with vegetables and herbs. Painting has also been completed with the help of boys from the Clontarf Academy.
According to Dr Wright, now all that needs to be finished is a centre point for the grounds.
“In terms of the ground work, we are planning to build a fire pit for some community fire gatherings,” she said.
The open day will be attended by Gardening Australia’s Costa Georgiadis, and will include live music and dancing, a free barbecue lunch and farmers market stalls with festivities starting from 1pm.
