Playing against the Blues, Robb College managed a strong second-half effort to get the job done.
After a close first-half, the patient student side ran away with the game in the second stanza.
"We had to do a lot of work in the first 20 minutes which was good and then showed pretty good resolve," co-coach David McCathie said of the 35-15 win.
"We scored 25 points to seven in the second-half so the fitness we have been doing paid dividends and just great commitment.
"Just a really pleasing effort for the first game."
Their slow start was coupled with the university holidays and not having any training sessions in the weeks preceding the fixture.
Although he was happy overall, McCathie was disappointed in the discipline.

"There were some really nice tries scored," he said
"But having said that, our discipline was a bit of a problem - we gave away a lot of penalties - but hopefully that was just a bit of eagerness and early season stuff.
"Our set piece was really, really good which was pleasing.
"I think we won most of our set piece and once we put a bit of pressure on the Blues forwards, I think it paid dividends for us."
They won't have a chance to work on it this Saturday with second and third grade, along with maybe a women's team if they get the numbers, travelling to Glen Innes.
Even with the lower grades playing, McCathie is resisting playing some of his first graders.
"I am a bit of a believer in keeping things how they should be," he said.
"We have got enough young men playing second and third grade, they all need a run too."
They did suffer a handful of injuries in the fixture.
