Armidale and Guyra entered a snap lockdown at 5pm on Saturday, which is schedule to last until 12.01am on Sunday August 15.

A statement from the supermarket said the limit would ensure more Woolworths customers have fair access to essential products.

It comes as the coronavirus cluster in the Armidale local government area increased to three, with all students and staff from Armidale Secondary College asked to self-isolate following a student returning a positive COVID-19 test.

On Saturday Health Minister Brad Hazzard announced the city had recorded two confirmed cases.

Woolworths' Armidale store is also conducting additional monitoring of social distancing and has deployed health ambassadors as part of its COVIDsafe plans.

In line with NSW Government directives, all customers and staff members are expected to wear face masks in stores.

Woolworths Armidale store manager, Jeffrey Carson, said they would remain open to customers.

"We understand this is an uncertain time in Armidale, but we want to reassure customers our store will remain open throughout the lockdown," Mr Carson said.

"We have plenty of stock in our supply chain, and our team members will be hard at work making sure it flows into our store in large volumes for our customers.

"As always, we encourage our customers to be mindful of others in the community and buy only what they need.

"We also ask customers to follow all social distancing and COVIDsafe measures in our store.

"Please treat our team members and each other with respect as we work through this unsettling time together," he said.

It was a sentiment echoed by SDA NSW, the union covering retail, fast food and warehouse workers.

"As covid lockdowns spread to regional areas, SDA NSW asks everyone in Armidale to keep their cool, keep their distance and wear a mask when shopping to help protect not just retail workers, but the wider community," SDA NSW/ACT Secretary Bernie Smith said.

"People in Armidale and surrounds should be extra vigilant and limit themselves to shopping only for essential goods over the coming lockdown period.

"We urge shoppers in Armidale to do the right thing to help keep themselves, fellow shoppers and retail workers safe.

"No one wants additional community transmission or an increase in restrictions and every one of us has role to play in stopping the spread. The following days will be crucial for Armidale and surrounds.

"As concerns build, remember essential supermarket and retail workers are trying to do the best they can. Respect each other and respect our retail workers. Don't get frustrated, remember no one deserves a serve," he said.
