MP Adam Marshall advises $6.5 million worth of road works has now begun

Member for Northern Tablelands Adam Marshall announced the new $6.5 million project, funded by the NSW and Commonwealth Governments, and said the upgrades were essential to keep the popular tourist and freight route "up to scratch".

Work will start this week and is expected to be completed by the end of the year, weather permitting.

Work will be carried out from 7am to 6pm on weekdays and Saturdays.

One traffic lane will be closed with alternating flow arrangements and a reduced speed limit in place for the safety of workers and road users.

Motorists are advised to allow up to five minutes extra travel time, drive to the conditions, and follow the directions of signs and traffic control.

Road users should also factor in other work being carried out on Waterfall Way when planning their journeys.

"Waterfall Way connects rural communities to the urban centres of Coffs Harbour and Armidale and is also a well-known tourist route, passing waterfalls at Wollomombi and on the Dorrigo Mountain while also providing access to Dorrigo National Park," Mr Marshall said.

"This project will upgrade a 5.7 kilometre section of road near Wollomombi, improving safety for around 1,700 vehicles which use this part of Waterfall Way each day, including about 170 heavy vehicles.

"Work will also be undertaken to widen and resurface the road, improve drainage, install safety barriers and replace a cattle grid.

"This will not only provide a safer, longer lasting and smoother surface for all road users but will also help sustain 20 local jobs, nine contractors and five suppliers while work is being carried out."
