Work will be carried out from 7am to 6pm on weekdays and Saturdays.

One traffic lane will be closed with alternating flow arrangements and a reduced speed limit in place for the safety of workers and road users.

Motorists are advised to allow extra travel time, drive to the conditions, and follow the directions of signs and traffic control.

Federal Member for New England Barnaby Joyce said this project is part of the $398 million Safer Roads Program, which is jointly funded by the Australian and New South Wales Governments and was announced as part of the infrastructure stimulus boost in mid-2020.

"I've been travelling on Waterfall Way for as long as I can remember," Mr Joyce said.

"It is an important freight and tourism corridor that connects rural Tablelands communities with the coast.

"This road suffered significant damage on the eastern side of the range during recent flooding events and while the road is open to traffic, work is continuing to get that part fixed.

"Meanwhile, more upgrades are also being carried out further west including a 5.7 kilometre section of Waterfall Way near Wollomombi."

These upgrades will involve widening and resurfacing works, as well as drainage improvements to increase safety on various sections of road.

Mr Joyce said Waterfall Way upgrades were part of a broader program to improve key transport corridors throughout the electorate.

"East-West roads are the next vital task in the New England and it's great to be part of further improvements," he said.
