"These positions will be vital in establishing links between the creative population of our region and council visitor information centres, giving our local artists and arts-related industries acknowledgment, recognition and employment opportunities, growing sustainability for the Arts within our communities."
Ms Downer thanked the large number of applicants who put themselves forward for the positions.
"The Arts North West creative champions will allow us to build stronger and wider networks throughout the New England North West region," she said.
"This is something we are constantly working on, but with such a large geographical area and 12 contributing councils, it is not always easy to do with a small staff.
"The Arts North West Connect website will be the most current and comprehensive database of all things creative in the New England North West."
Lyn Aspey will make the essential connections that drive a healthy and visible creative arts industry for the Armidale region.
A writer and content creator with a background in business development and customer services, Ms Aspey has lived and worked in Britain, Europe, Canada and the Caribbean for over twenty years, finally returning to Australia and moving to Armidale in 2013.
Having been been involved in several start-ups, Ms Aspey's most recent role was head of customer success for a deal management platform that listed on the ASX in March 2020.
She says she has a deep understanding of the challenges and business requirements that face creative entrepreneurs.
"In late August 2020, I took on the role as program manager for the New England Writers' Centre, a position that allows me to use my customer support, IT and design skills to deliver a program of online and in-person workshops and events for writers and illustrators," she said.
"Since returning to Australia and settling in Armidale, I've become a passionate advocate of both the New England region and the incredible diversity of the arts community here.
"The appointment as an Arts North West Creative Champion for the Armidale region is a fantastic opportunity to advocate for and to support a greater level of networking and business opportunity for artists, illustrators, writers and creators of all types."
