The NSW Rugby Union on Friday night announced that they were targeting July for a return for community rugby competitions, which would include the Central North and New England competitions.
All rugby-related activities are currently suspended until June 1. It is expected that will be extended, with the public health order restrictions in place beyond that date.
But with the anticipated easing of COVID-19 restrictions in the coming months and the potential lifting of public health orders on June 29, the NSWRU said it is working towards a July restart.
"Our unions will work with all areas of community rugby to assist them to return to the field safely and expeditiously, while adhering to all relevant government requirements," NSWRU chief executive officer Paul Doorn said.
The NSWRU acknowledged that there are "still a number of challenges we need to overcome".
There will likely be continuing restrictions and controls such as increased food hygiene, restricted spectator numbers and dressing room access. As they become aware of the conditions for training and games, the NSWRU said they will communicate them to the clubs.
