Buoyed with confidence after a 10-nil drubbing of Moree in round six of the PSSA knockout, Ben Venue Public Schools' boys' soccer team took on Tamworth Public for regional honours.
The match was held at Rologas on Monday and it was a nail-biter.
The match started quickly with both sides moving the ball around looking to be first to threaten the opposition defence.
Ben Venue were awarded the first corner and Jared Frost placed the ball beautifully in front of Brodie Meredith who was able to get the ball past the Tamworth defence leaving Ben Venue with a 1-nil lead only five minutes into the match.
It proved to be a vital goal with some tight play for the rest of the match.
The rest of the first-half saw both teams looking to get the upper hand however both sides were able to repel any attack and the score remained 1-nil at half-time.
In the second-half, Tamworth took an all or nothing approach launching several attacking raids.
But Ben Venue's scrambling defence and some solid goal keeping work from Alex Harris were able to keep Tamworth scoreless, giving Ben Venue the win.
Ben Venue now go on the road to play in the NSW PSSA quarter finals against either Tacking Point or Byron Bay Public School.
