Roadwork worth $10 million along the New England Highway, and the Saumarez Creek Bridge was officially competed, and opened by the Member for Northern Tablelands Adam Marshall on Wednesday morning.

The bridge was widened from 8.5 metres to 10 metres to further separate traffic on one of the busiest sections of the New England Highway in this region.
Armidale Regional Council mayor Simon Murray said the bridge was just inside the council boundary.

"Just widening it has made it safer," he said.
Mr Marshall said it was the last section of the upgrade between Armidale and Uralla to be completed.
"This section of the highway does have a terrible crash record," he said.
"There's a lot of traffic between Armidale and Uralla, travelling for work, school, to go shopping and for coffee and what-have-you.
"This road is busy, and it is going to get busier."
