The NSW Grouping and International Rimfire Benchrest Championships were held from June 7 to June 10 at Seaham N.S.W, hosted by SSAA Newcastle Branch.
Armidale Secondary College students Patrick Simpson and Josh Dawson competed in the four day event outstandingly.
Year nine student Patrick came away with five medals, a screamer and top ten patch for his diligent effort.
Pat won gold in the 50 metre Light Class Grouping event then a bronze in the 50m, 100m combined Light Class event.
He then won silver in the 50m Heavy Class Grouping event and eighth in the combined 50m, 100m combined Heavy Class Grouping event securing his placement in the top 10 shooters.
In the 50m Light Class event he had an aggregate of .4552 narrowly missing out on breaking the NSW record of .4312.
This record was broken on the day by Tom Keys with an aggregate of .4308 who happens to be Pat's coach.
Pat achieved a "screamer" patch for shooting a very small group of .169 in the 50m Heavy Class event and was awarded the top junior for the weekend.
Josh shot very well and consistently all weekend , scoring two great groups of .286 and .288 in the 50m Heavy Class event.
The weather conditions were extremely varied and challenging over the four days making these achievements all the more amazing.
Congratulations to our wonderful Armidale Secondary College Junior Shooters.
