Operation Chrome launched on Friday to save lives and reduce trauma on roads in rural areas.
Drivers need to follow the road rules to keep themselves and others safe, Peel Highway Patrol Senior Sergeant Mick Buko said.
"Drinking or taking drugs and driving will be one of our targets this operation," he said.
"However, all police both Operation Chrome staff and local police will be out in force and if you are doing something wrong we will watch you."
Officers from Oxley and New England Police Districts will work in a coordinated effort with the Traffic and Highway Patrol Command.

"The aim is to stop fatal crashes before they happen," Sgt Buko said.
"To do that, we make no apologies for enforcing the road rules that are the biggest contributors to fatal crashes. Road safety is everyone's responsibility, if every driver or rider takes personal responsibility for their actions, it will save lives.
"It's that simple."
Operation Chrome will run on Friday and Saturday of May 17-18.
