NSW Minister for Education Sarah Mitchell visited Armidale on Friday, primarily to inspect the Armidale Secondary College building site and view first-hand the progress being made there. While in town, she also took the opportunity to visit a few local schools as a guest of local MP and NSW Minister for Agriculture Adam Marshall.
"As soon as she was sworn in I invited her to Armidale," he said.
"It's great to have her here in Armidale and be able to talk to her about a few of the strategies and the future of the secondary college. But, while she is here, to also show her some of the amazing work that our local primary schools are doing.
"She's just new in the job, it's great for her to come and visit our local schools."
Mr Marshall said he was looking forward to receiving a briefing on the progress of the secondary college.
"As people can see when they drive past, the demolition works are almost completed," he said.
"The central building is still remaining and so is the den, but all of the other buildings have been removed.
"Now they move into preparing the site for actual construction of the new school structures."
Mr Marshall said it was a good chance for the Minister to inspect the site, go through the plans and discuss the performing arts centre and its funding, which she would hopefully be providing very soon.
