The Demon Knights were reduced to nine men after leading 2-nil at half-time of the Thursday night clash.
Demon Knights coach Evan Quaife was pleased with his sides efforts, despite giving up the lead.
"We knew it was going to be pretty tough after we had one of our guys sent off because of a second yellow card 15 minutes into the second half," Quaife said.
"Then to have our goal keeper go off as well was always going to make it difficult, especially against a side like South Armidale.
"They are a really strong outfit and have posted some pretty good results so far this season, so from that front I'm fairly pleased with how our guys went."
Quaife said his side's first-half lead was down to "a complete team effort".
"I guess our midfield was pretty strong on the night but it really was a good effort from everyone," he said.
"Sam Constance kicked our first one and had a really good game but I think a lot of guys played really well.
"To be honest, I can't fault their effort, they played really well."
South Armidale president Joe Campbell said the Scorpions were nearly left ruing missed chances until the late comeback.
"We dominated a lot of the play but they got the goals early and put us under pressure from there," he said.
"We felt we had the majority of the chances, we scored and own goal and then the game turned and they had a couple of guys sent off late which really put the pressure on them."
Despite not earning an outright win, Campbell was still optimistic.
"The way we look at it is we have had three games and we are still unbeaten really," he said.
"We have had two draws and a win.
"We are heading in the right direction.
"If we can keep doing that and beating teams in between it will put us in a good position for the semis."
The sixth-placed Demon Knights will be out to break their win-less start to the season when they clash with Tamworth FC in a grand final rematch on April 27.
"Given Tamworth FC went through undefeated last season and won the premiership they are always a tough opponent," Quaife said.
"It should be a good test for us."
