Reaching a wider audience through the Armidale newspaper has seen Prof Sims share her expertise with parents.
Each week a variety of columnists are published in the Armidale Extra and on the Armidale Express website.
The topics range from gardening to science, as well as education, religion and history.
After writing the Family Matters column for a year, Prof Sims would also start writing another column for the Extra and Express website, called Class Act, which gave readers an insight into the education system.

As well as explaining what they write about, and what insight they are trying to provide, we also asked them about the feedback they receive from the community.
