Ron attended both Armidale Primary and Armidale High schools and he enlisted in the Australian Army on July 2, 1942. He served as a mechanic at the 2nd Australian Army Ordinance Corp workshop in Brisbane servicing vehicles, and he was discharged on January 29, 1944.
He met and married a Queensland girl, Edith Budd, after the war and they returned to Armidale to live. They had five children four of whom survived to adulthood.
He lived such a good life.
- Ron's daughter, Di Ramage.
Ron was a well known Butcher in Armidale for many years, and even after retiring he returned to work for LW Burgess delivering groceries, mostly to the elderly. He then worked in their hardware department. Having built three homes over the years, it was probably natural that local builders and plumbers sought Ron's knowledge.
Edith died suddenly on January 31, 1977.
Ron remarried during 1983, and he and his second wife Judy decided to move to Ropeley, near Gatton in Queensland. There, he helped a local doctor who owned a property, with cattle work and maintaining farm machinery for some years.
Ron and Judy moved into Amaroo Aged Care Home in Gatton in 2014, and in 2017, they were moved to the Crows Nest Aged Care Home near Toowoomba.
Ron celebrated his 100th Birthday, October 30, 2017, with his family, grandchildren and great grandchildren and his niece Moreen from Uralla. On October 13, the following year Ronald Ramage passed away peacefully at “Cooinda” Aged Care Home. Crows Nest.
