Their first match saw them face a tough Narwan outfit, with the Eels claiming a 16-8 win. 

The Guyra girls then took on reigning champions Moree Boomerangs who took the win 16-4. 

After shaking off the nerves from the first week, Spudette Britt Youman said the side had a better idea of what was in store in the second round of matches.

“The second week I was more prepared I guess but it was a lot harder than the first week,” she said.

“Narwan was a good game felt like we had a bit more of a go, whereas the Boomerangs were quite rough think it shook a lot of the girls!

“Positives were that I think we seemed a lot more comfortable and had a good laugh, but we did have one pretty bad injury she’s looking at surgery.”

There is one week left in the competition with Guyra facing Uralla this Saturday at 1pm before playing a finals match. 

Glen Innes are currently leading the competition with four wins from four matches with Narwan and Moree both on three wins apiece. 

In terms of who will take the trophy this year, Youman believes the Magpies girls might just have the edge. 

“I hope Glen win,” she said.

“They are a solid side and are there to have fun as well.”
