Two prisoners Robert John Riley (aged 49) and Trent Wayne Porter (aged 32) reported missing from the minimum security correctional facility on the Gwydir Highway, near Glen Innes, about 4.30pm on Friday, October 26, appeared before Magistrate Michael Holmes in the Armidale Local Court on Monday morning.

Both escapees entered guilty pleas and Magistrate Holmes said he preferred to sentence them both together, so adjourned both matters until November 19. He and told both men they would be sentenced via a video link.

Both men were arrested after officers attached to the New England Police District were involved in a short pursuit with a car on the New England Highway at Armidale about 10am on Saturday, October 27.
The car was found abandoned in Beardy Street and the two men were located in a nearby house when police searched the area. They were arrested without incident and taken to Armidale Police Station where they were charged with a bevy of offences including escape from lawful custody.
