Member for Northern Tablelands Adam Marshall has announced his intention to seek pre-selection for the seat of Northern Tablelands at the coming state election, effectively ending speculation that he might be considering challenging Barnaby Joyce for the seat of New England in the coming Federal Election due to be held early next year.

“I certainly love the job that I have,” Mr Marshall said.

“I feel very lucky to to have that and be in that position to represent some amazing communities and some really resilient people. Over the last five-years, together with all the communities in the region, we’ve been able to achieve so much.

“From my perspective, I want to see all those projects fully delivered. Also we’ve got so much more that our communities want to achieve and I want to achieve with them. I’d like to have the opportunity over the next four years to have that opportunity to keep that momentum going.”

Mr Marshall said a lot of progress was made throughout the electorate on police stations, hospitals, schools, roads and bridges and some big tourist projects and described it as a thrill to have worked with the community on such projects.

He said he knew there was a bit of scuttlebutt; rumours about him looking towards Canberra.

“I love the role I have in state government. I think that it’s like local government, still about service delivery, things that matter to people,” he said.

“Quite frankly, Canberra at the moment is toxic. The focus is internal and very much in the bubble and not about people and not about communities, and that’s what I’m all about.”
