All thoroughbred horses in the Southern Hemisphere had their birthday this week – and the Horseland Armidale tack store proved itself a thoroughbred winner at the franchise’s annual conference in Melbourne.
Manager Bec Cameron rode home from the awards night on Tuesday with Best Store of the 2017/18 financial year, and a “Heart of the Community” finalist place.
"It's a shock," Bec said.
"We knew we’d had a pretty good year for Horseland in such a small town, but it was definitely a shock! I couldn't be prouder of the team with all the effort they've put in over the year."
The Horselands store may be only a small franchise, but it galloped down the home stretch to the finish line.
The win was a testament to Bec and team members Claire Wanford and Skye Berry’s commitment to good performance and serving the community.
Bec, only 23, has run the store for the last three years, and worked at Horseland since early 2013 – her first big job after school.
“Both my parents are horse crazy,” Bec said, “and I have ridden my whole life. I grew up locally in Armidale, so I know the clientele quite well in town."
She has three horses of her own.
“Stockhorses, thoroughbreds, warmbloods – I own it all!”
Bec hopes the store will place next year, too.
"It would be great if we could do it again,” she said. “We're just trying to keep things fresh and interesting, and keep the community involved."
To celebrate the victory, Bec plans to hold a party for all Horseland Armidale customers and friends at the new season launch on Thursday, September 6.
This is the first time the season’s clothing, saddles, and rugs will be available. There will be big sale discounts on the night, gift bags, prizes, and giveaways.
