After a lengthy consultation and tender process, Armidale Regional Council, in collaboration with the Guyra Aged Care Advisory Committee, announced the successful tender on Tuesday.
In 2017, Council reviewed into its management of the facility to ensure that existing and future residents of Kolora and the Guyra community would have continued access to quality aged care.

“McLean Care submitted the only compliant tender for the management and operation of the new facility, having demonstrated their strong and extensive track record in the region for quality aged care management,” Armidale Regional Council mayor Simon Murray said.
The review resulted in the formal tender process that identified McLean Care as the most suitably qualified specialist residential aged care provider to undertake the management and operation of the facility.
“As a community-owned and operated organisation in regional Australia, McLean Care is continually looking for the most efficient and effective ways to deliver quality aged care services within the unique and challenging environment of operating in rural and remote communities,” McLean Care chief executive Sue Thomson said.
“We prioritise keeping seniors in their own communities, close to family and friends, and Kolora represents a long-term sustainable solution for the people of Guyra.
“It is these strong community partnerships that ensure we continually drive high quality aged care in our rural communities, and we expect to finalise matters identified by the tender process in the coming weeks to ensure the provision of the best possible outcome for all stakeholders.”
As part of the agreement between the two organisations, council will continue to own the new facility but McLean Care will take up the lease for its management and operation.
“The new Kolora facility, with its successful accreditation in 2018, highly experienced management from McLean Care, and the new alliance with council is a great outcome for all key stakeholders, and represents a positive influence for the future of the Guyra community,” council’s community and customer service leader Krista Schmidt added.
Finalisation of the process is expected to take place in early August.
