DK were sluggish out of the blocks and conceded the opening goal before they clicked into gear.
Naran Singh and Reece Burton then found the back of the net to give DK a 2-1 lead in their round eight clash at Rologas.
Kirk Burton extended the lead to 3-1 for the hosts and, with 20 minutes left on the clock, the match looked done and dusted.
A relentless North Companions outfit snared two late goals for the sides to finish the game with three goals apiece. DK coach Evan Quaife said it was disappointing to finish the game with a draw after holding a healthy lead late in the clash.
“I thought we had done enough to win that game, come back to 3-1 with 20 to go you should probably go on with it and win it but these things happen for whatever reason,” he said.
“I prefer to lose 2-nil than lead 3-1 and get a draw out of it. It felt like a loss to me and we had probably done enough to win the game. They [North Companions] were probably unlucky not to win in the end. Two of the goals were just complacency, just didn't clear the ball or weren't desperate enough to clear the ball up in the box. That was our fault.”
Quaife said the game was “very stop-start.”
“It just didn't seem like the game flowed at all,” he said.
“There were a lot of free kicks.”
In the round’s other clashes, Norths United were beaten 3-1 by competition leaders Tamworth FC while East Armidale suffered a 2-nil loss to Oxley Vale Attunga.
