Funded by YWCA NSW and the Department of Family and Community Services, the program provides young people (mentees) in Years 8 or 9 with an opportunity to build life skills and self-confidence by working collaboratively with an adult mentor to undertake a project which makes a positive difference within the local community.
This year in the Northern Tablelands electorate five students from Uralla Central School were successfully selected and paired with a mentor. Together they took part in a minimum of 30 hours of mentoring, including facilitated group sessions and one-to- one mentoring sessions guided by a structured workbook.
Dayna Cain, Lachlan Watson, Fraser Westley, Hayley Hockey, and Gemma Weguelin were participants in the 2017 Youth Frontiers program and recently celebrated their successes at a Showcase in Armidale.
“They have each represented Uralla Central School to the best of their ability,” said program coordinator Ashleigh Walton.
“I wish them all the best for their future adventures!”
