Food and green waste from green bins are delivered by the truckload.
Tomatoes that don’t make the cut for wholesale from the Guyra tomato farm are also given to the facility.
Combined with some leftover compost from an earlier batch, the mix is then wet with water and sprayed with an accelerator.
The mix is made from fermented rice milk, milk, water and sugar – and helps steer the compost bacteria in the right direction.
The compost mixture is then put under tarpaulins and left for a number of weeks to break down.
It is then put through a machine that acts as a sieve, removing larger elements that were unable to degrade.
These larger elements are then shredded and sold as B grade compost, the original mix is much higher in nutrients.
The compost is sold exclusively to residents at a cost of $50 per cubic meter.
