Tom Bower is head coach of the local Lions team and said 82 players from the Mid North Coast, Central North and New England put in their registrations forms with 52 turning up on Sunday to put their best foot forward.
"We had some that were really developed who played for NSW and NSW Country before and then we had girls who were playing it for the first time but have been successful in other sports,” he said.
"We ran some strength and conditioning testing with exercise science department, we did some education stations to teach the girls how to play rugby and in the afternoon we had match play.
"At the end of this week we are going to let the girls know if they were successful or not in getting into wider training squads.”
Training bases will be set up in the three regions with the wider squad coming together twice before the tournament in August.
