Murray nominated to be on the Parkrun Australia board of directors who oversee the numerous Parkrun locations across the country.
He said it is a great honour to be elected to the committee with the event continuing to grow with the 200th launched last weekend.
"[I feel] really privileged to be elected to the board and my skills will be representing areas, in particular north west NSW so it is good for Parkrun and I am looking forward to it,” he said.
"They called for nominations, I was nominated by a couple of other event directors from around Australia and then it went to the Annual General Meeting early this month and I was elected to the board.
"We are volunteers and I am pretty excited by it.
“I went from event director at Armidale to territory director for north NSW and now I am on the board so I oversee right across Australia now.
"I really do believe in Parkrun and the difference it can make in people's lives and I wanted to get further involved in it and this was an opportunity to get further involved in it so I jumped at it.”
His love of running has taken him into competing in the long distance marathon events.
He competed in three this year and is hoping to increase to six next year.
Murray said his first will be the Cadbury marathon in Tasmania and he is feeling good ahead of the race.
"That is my next run so I am looking forward to that and I am running well at the moment so I am pretty happy with that,” he said.
"Everything seems to be ticking along well and I just have to be careful over Christmas that I don't eat too much.”
Parkrun is a weekly, timed, five kilometre walk or run which is held locally at SportUNE every Saturday at 8am.
