Mr Bannon is a Vietnam War veteran who lost the function of his legs in a car accident and never walked since.
“Parking is a big problem, I need enough space behind my car to get out safely,” he said.
“These parking spaces are being abused left, right and centre.”
Drivers that park in a disabled parking spot without a permit will now receive a $519 fine and lose one demerit point.
Mr Bannon said he is tired of arguing with lazy drivers over disabled parking spots in Armidale.
“I’ve been abused, refused, threatened and intimidated by these people in the window of my car,” he said.
