The Guyra polocrosse club has had a busy but successful season. Our own carnival, which was to be held the Easter weekend, was washed out with some very welcome rain.

The Mckemey’s, Finlayson’s and Grills headed off to Albury for the Junior Classic. Here we saw Tim Finlayson in the NSW No 1 team coming out winners to QLD and Jack and Alec in the NSW 2 team.
In the sub juniors, Abby Finlayson played in the Sub Junior 1 team and won easily against Victoria. Claudia McKemey played in the NSW 2 team and I think they just had a lot of fun!
Abby won various awards including Best No. 3, Best Female sub junior and Champion stock horse and Tim got selected in the Australian PAA (Polocrosse Association of Australia) squad side! Congratulations to both!
Quite a few members then travelled to Warwick for the Barostoc competition. Jack, Tim and Alec were in the junior boys team and beat QLD two out of three games. Meagan Vidler was also in a women’s team and I believe they also came out winners
Some other results to mention include Quirindi carnival where all four Guyra teams won their respective grades! The following people also won best Numbers: Claudia, Seb McCracken, Gus White, Sophie McKemey, Jamie Vidler, and Sam Finlayson.
Cassilis was the next one, held at Coolah. The men’s team including Sara Hancock were runners up, as were our mixed Subbies team. Our juniors were in a mixed team and they came out winners. Dan, Bridget and Jack Mckemey all received best numbers.
Some of our members also attended Warialda carnival of which I unfortunately do not have those results. Coffs Harbour was where some of our members attended, the B Grade came out runners up and Gus White received Best no. 1 in the junior competition.
The Club championships were held at Bingara this year with our men’s team winning the B Grade, our mixed team runners up and our subbies were runners up in the championship comp.
Claudia McKemey and Charlie Fitler receiving best numbers in the subbies and Jamie Vidler best no 1 and Matt Grills best no 3 in the men’s team.
A junior challenge was held at Narrabri where kids got to choose their own teams. This was a heap of fun for the kids whose teams organised shirts and sponsorship and then it was mate against mate.
Sophie Mckemeys’ team “the Fat Hacks” were in the B division and came home winners! The finals held on Sunday afternoon was a fantastic display of polocrosse. The last chukka saw Tim Finlayson’s team ride on 9 goals behind, it was amazing to see Tim and fellow team mates fight back and score 9 goals in 8 minutes!! This took it to golden point where unfortunately the other team threw the all important goal
The zone competition was recently held at Coolah and we had quite a few members selected to play for the Northern New England team at this event
Sara Hancock was in the women’s team. Jock, Sam and Seb all competed in the hotly contested intermediate team. Our Subbies made it to the final against the very strong Southern Highlands team and our juniors also came home with a win.
Congratulations to Abby and Tim on their Best no 1 awards. Gus White received champion sub junior stock horse and to Jack Mckemey on his Champion junior boy, horse and rider award.
Mendooran was our next carnival where the boys (and Dan and Rob) came home B grade winners and our subbies played in the open competition where they proved to be a force to be reckoned with. Congratulations to Abby on her champion sub junior award.
The Rosebowl at Warwick was the final carnival for most of us where the boys, Jack, Tim and Alec were selected to play in an intrasquad competition.
The competition consisted of two Australian teams of which Tim had the honour of riding out in the gold team.
Jack and Alec played in the NSW team. NSW were beaten against both Australian teams but come home winners in a nail biting match against QLD. The Australian teams played each other with each receiving one win and one loss. It was a remarkable display of some very good junior competitors.
