Anthony Kelly yesterday set a new world record for the fastest shuttlecock ever caught.
Standing in front of an aggressive looking pressure gun Kelly ran a few practise runs as the gun fired shuttlecocks at him from eight metres away travelling at speeds of up to 230 feet per second.
With his lefthand Mr Kelly was able to snatch out of the air a shuttlecock travelling at 224kmph.
Mr Kelly, who holds 15 black belts in martial arts, spent a year preparing physically and mentally for this record attempt.
The gun was purpose built was a challenge in itself.
“It was a huge job to get the gun to work correctly, I had to get it made and then fine-tuned,” Mr Kelly said.
“I’ve spent a fortune preparing for these record attempts, much to my wife’s joy.” Mr Kelly isn’t satisfied with shuttlecocks, he is preparing for a TV segment in China where he will be catching live fireworks.
