Armidale’s own arrow catcher Anthony Kelly yesterday broke the record for most spears shot out of spear gun caught underwater in one minute.
Kelly broke the record on his first attempt with eight and caught eight again with his second attempt before finding his groove and catching 10 in his third and final attempt to smash the record by three.
“I really warmed up and got into the zone for that last attempt,” he said.
Kelly was obviously ecstatic when he jumped out of the SportUNE pool.
“I’m happy to finally have it back,” he said of the record,” he said.
“I’m elated to have broken it again.
“There’s a lot of pressure when you do things like this. Today I was more nervous than I usually am.”
The other world record was broken at Armidale High School earlier in the week, with the school just falling short of another. Two hundred and fifty students jumped up and down to AC/DC to set the record for most people head banging at once.
“That was absolutely excellent,” Kelly, who organised the event, said.
The school also tried to set the record for most thongs thrown at once, but fell 19 short of the minimum number of 250 set by Guinness World Records.
Kelly also attemped to break the record for most targets hit with blow gun in one minute yesterday afternoon, but results of that feat were not available at the time of press.
